Becky Kuhn, MD, describes the symptoms of AIDS. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the symptoms include: * “rapid weight loss” * “dry cough” * “recurring fever or profuse night sweats” * “profound and unexplained fatigue” * “swollen lymph glands in the armpits, groin, or neck” * “diarrhea that lasts for more than a week” * “white spots or unusual blemishes on the tongue, in the mouth, or in the throat” * “pneumonia” * “red, brown, pink, or purplish blotches on or under the skin or inside the mouth, nose, or eyelids” * “memory loss, depression, and other neurological disorders” If you have one or more of these symptoms, does it necessarily mean you are infected with HIV or have developed AIDS? No. Many common diseases can cause one or more of these symptoms. For example, most people with a fever or sore throat are probably just experiencing common illnesses such as the cold, influenza, or mononucleosis. A person is only diagnosed if they are confirmed HIV+ and also either have a CD4 count under 200 or have an opportunistic infection that is indicative of a weakened immune system. So don’t panic. But if you have any of these symptoms and think theres even the slightest chance you might ever have been exposed to HIV, you should see a doctor and ask to be tested for HIV. Remember, the CDC recommends that all adults be tested for HIV regardless of whether they believe they have any risk factors or exposure to HIV and regardless of …

@1982circaguy: Wrong. There’s no evidence you can contract HIV through contact with a dry surface like a toilet seat. HIV dies within minutes outside the body on a dry surface. Go to AIDSvideos web site and click “FAQ” and “Myths” links.
you can get aids from sitting at a public toilet. Use toilet paper to cover the seat.
I would hate to be in your shoes. There other things that can kill ya, aids is just one of them.
More from Dr. Frascino: “Serodia HIV-1/2 is a simplified variant of a gelatin-particle agglutination test that does not require highly trained personnel or specialized instrumentation to perform. The comparative studies I’ve seen published in the medical literature and presented at AIDS conferences demonstrate the test is highly sensitive and specific and therefore compares favorably to the standard ELISA test.” Read the article “Query from the Philippines.”
@ahsan8720: This is Eric; I’m not a doctor. Ask your doctor to interpret your HIV test results for you; I don’t have them and am not qualified to do that anyway. Ask your doctor if you should be retested later after more time passes. At thebody web site, Dr. Frascino says: “More recent agglutination assays, such as the gelatin-particle agglutination test compare very favorably to standard ELISA tests.”
Halo…can i knw something about the particle agglutination test of hiv…?is it reliable..?..plz….ans me..and help me….thank u..please ans me…..
and i hav one more ques..i had a test after one month of the possible exposure…..and that time i also felt sick….tht time i had gonorreha….but the hiv test came out negative……..so can i rely on the test that i dnt have hiv..?..plz ans me…and save me…
@ovidiocatullo thank you very much for sharing that with us
I’m HIV+ since year 2000.
I can only say 1 thin:. if you’re in doubt for any reason, just go to make a blood examination. That’s the only way to face this situation with only two solutions: 1) you’re negative and everything is fine,. 2) you’re infected, but you’re just in time to start with terapies and fight this awful desease. You must be as most realistic as possible. I’m taking my terapies for 10 years so far… and I’m living my life as it was absolutely normal. For any question, I’m here
@ggjinnigas or what ever his name is —- I dunno it’s a tough desicion
@177speedwolf: Go to the AIDSvideos site and click FAQ. Watch our vid “Brief Introduction to HIV and AIDS.” AIDS is a virus. You can only contract it from a person who has been exposed to it or from their bodily fluids.
Can u get aids by having anal sex, even though the person u have sex with doesnt have aids?
great vid. thanks a lot.
@Emblemz do you have spots all over your body?
are you lacking nutrition?
15 minuts of pleasure is NOT worth dying over……..
Thank you for this video
See a doctor; describe your symptoms; only a doctor can diagnose.
i have memory loss and depression….do i have it??
Its scary!
Antiretroviral medications (ARVs) can help prevent HIV from progressing to clinical AIDS (and can with luck put clinical AIDS into remission) but there is no cure.
Is there any treatment or medicine for HIV or AIDS yet?
OK, understood. Just please make sure that you’re very specific with any such comments. e.g. please say “You can’t get AIDS by touching someone …” rather than a vague statement that “it’s actually much more difficult than what most think to get HIV,” which some people might misunderstand to be suggesting that it’s “hard” to get HIV via sexual activity, since that’s not the message you wanted to send and it’s dangerous if misinterpreted that way.
of course its always good to take percaution i am studying to be a virologist and i would like to specialize in AIDS the reason i made this comment is because some people think you can contract AIDS/HIV as easily as touching someone with it
Don’t take any chances. Regardless how low the risk may seem for a single exposure, it only takes one time …
yes its actually much more difficult then what most think to get HIV or AIDS
dont cross your fingers thats bad luck:(
